STATEC, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, has reported an examination of the balance of payment data related to the fringe border residents and commuters into Luxembourg; the report noted that the social contributions received by the Grand-Duchy from the border residents continues to exceed and surpass the amount in benefits by them received.

It is not surprising then, to see that, given the high number of border residents, there was a negative balance of almost €8 billion in 2014 for the remuneration of border employees.

However, any clear conclusions are difficult to be drawn through the balance of payments, as it is just as much transparent as it is complex.
