On Monday 2 May 2016, the Constituent Assembly of the Regional Tourist Board (ORT) was held at the Ministry of the Economy for the central and western regions of the country.

The ORTs assemble the main tourist actors of a region in a bid to better coordinate activities and increase professionalism. There are already ORTs for the Ardennes, the Moselle, the Mullerthal - Little Switzerland and the South (RedRockRegion) of the Luxembourg. With the creation of a fifth Central/West, the country will now have a professional regional structure.

In the coming months, the new ORT will also become affiliated with the economic interest group Luxembourg for Tourism, which will then be able to rely on the 5 regional tourist offices and the Luxembourg City Tourist Office. In addition to the existing ORTs and LCTO, Luxembourg for Tourism, as a structure for the promotion of national tourism, regroups tourist accommodation associations (Horesca, Camprilux, youth hostels) as well as several private companies of a certain size.

"With the creation of the Central/West ORT and its future accession to Luxembourg for Tourism, the structural and organisational reorganisation of tourism bodies at the regional and national level is complete," commented Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, at the Constituent Assembly. "We have therefore created an effective basis for developing the professionalisation of tourism at all levels of the decision and operating chain and to ensure the adequate promotion of Luxembourg abroad."
