On Monday, the Luxembourg Independent Broadcasting Authority (ALIA) announced that a total of three candidates have applied to their public call to operate a radio station, prior to the 8 July deadline; this was the second call for expressions of interest that had been launched, following the first call which closed in May without any applications.

The three expressions of interest were received from the following:

- AirFM24;

- PLG Agency;

- Radio TopStar.

ALIA will now review the applications received and will announce its decision in September. Neither the content nor the language regime of the proposed programme must meet specific conditions, the primary objective of ALIA is the support and the guarantee of sound media pluralism in Luxembourg.

ALIA is a public administrative establishment and exists since 1 December 2013. Its main mission is monitoring the content of television and radio programmes with a Luxembourg license. If a programme element is contrary to the rules governing the programme content and advertising, the Authority may intervene and express sanctions. ALIA is also in charge of monitoring the ranking of films released. In the area of regulation, it assigns permissions to regional and local radio stations in the Grand Duchy.
