On 12 January 2017, the Luxembourgish Independent Authority for Audiovisuals (ALIA) reprimanded Radio Television Luxembourg (RTL) over its broadcast of the programme Den Nol op de Kapp.

The broadcasting authority ALIA has brought a complaint against RTL for having shown the programme Den Nol op de Kapp. The reason behind this complaint is the show’s manipulation of image and sound to create the appearance of an "inexistent reality".

According to ALIA, such manipulations go against certain obligations according to an agreement with the Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Télédiffusion (CLT-Ufa). Such obligations concern for instance the respect of the “honesty of information” and the ban on altering certain elements of filming and images.

The programme covered an interview of Enrico Lunghi, Director of MUDAM, by Sophie Schram of RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg, following which Enrico Lunghi was accused of manhandling Sophie Schram. He subsequently lost his job at MUDAM and it is understood that legal proceedings have been instigated.

Moroever, the ALIA has stated that RTL is held accountable to fulfilling certain public service obligations and so viewers should be able to expect programmes offering sincere information which can be trusted.

As the authority has concluded, the Den Nol op de Kapp programme has explicitly and severely violated the rules it should follow and so the administration council has brought proceedings against RTL.
