Luxembourg’s newest Burger King will flip its first bun on Wednesday morning following the inauguration of the global chain’s first outlet in the capital city today.

Taking over the site of the Quick restaurant on Avenue de la Gare, the 177-seat, 486 square-metre fast food outlet adds to the existing three others in the Grand Duchy.

As is the case in Belgium, the opening of this Burger King does not call into question the existence of Quick, also held by Burger Brands Luxembourg. On the contrary, Quick and Burger King will cohabit. "We know that Luxembourgers are very attached to the Quick brand, and are confident that they will welcome Burger King with open arms. With its flame-roasted hamburgers, the chain offers a very specific offer,” said Kevin Derycke, CEO of Burger Brands Luxembourg.

The company, Burger Brands Luxembourg, has recruited an additional staff for the city-centre Burger King outlet, bringing to 290 the total staff employed in Luxembourg - this includes the eight Quick restaurants operated by the company.

With an investment stated to be €967k, this Burger King outlet is at the forefront of technology as it operates six digital order terminals.

The Quick chain of restaurants has changed hands many times since it was founded in Belgium in 1971. It arrived in Luxembourg in 1983 when the Place d'Armes in Luxembourg city was the first site in the Grand Duchy for the Belgian fast-food brand. By the end of 2001, Quick has 430+ restaurants in Belgium, Luxembourg, France and the French Overseas Departments.

The Burger King brand entered Luxembourg in 2011.

In January this year, Burger Brands Belgium SA redeemed all the shares of Happy Quick SA; on 1 April 2017, Happy Quick SA changed its name to Burger Brands Luxembourg SA.
