New research from Europe’s leading business-to-business marketplace, Expert Market, shows that Luxembourg women will effectively be working for free from 29 November 2016 due to the gender pay gap.

As a result of this pay gap, women across Europe are effectively not being paid for certain months of the year. The findings reveal that on average women in Europe earn 16.68% less than men, which is equivalent to working for free for almost two months per year.

The situation is marginally better in Luxembourg, where the gender pay gap is 8.60%, one of the smallest in Europe. Nevertheless, women will still effectively stop earning money from 29 November, which is equivalent to one month of free labour a year.

Bosnia has the highest gender pay gap at 46%, whilst Slovenia has the smallest with 3.20%.
