Chaired by the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, the Economic Committee’s review of the labour market in February 2017 disclosed that by April, the number of applications submitted decreased by three units compared to February, with a total of nine companies applying for partial unemployment support over the next month.

The Economic Committee decided favourably on seven of the requests, with the final decision on whether or not to grant this support to companies temporarily confronted with a difficult cyclical situation incumbent on the Governing Council.

In the enterprises concerned, it is expected that out of a total workforce of 1,055 people, 458 employees work on a reduced schedule. The expenditure incurred by the Employment Fund for the month of April 2017 is €715,392 in the event that all the undertakings concerned benefit fully from the partial unemployment schemes granted.

In addition, the Economic Committee issued a positive opinion in relation to the statutory early retirement-adjustment provisions concerning one employed person. The Committee proposed to the applicant undertaking a participation rate in the cost of early retirement.
