Around 300 dairy farmers are expected to form a unified protest in the city centre tomorrow, calling for more government support in the plight of falling Luxembourg dairy prices.

Luxembourgish farmers have been feeling the effects of the decrease in dairy prices, and will be making a stand tomorrow to appeal to Minister for Agriculture Fernand Etgen to develop solutions to the rising problem.

The agricultural industry represents a significant sector in the Grand Duchy, and the support of those struggling in this field was cited as one of the priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

"The monitoring of agricultural markets in difficults is one of the priorities of our Presidency," stated Minister Etgen following a Council meeting on 14 July earlier this year. "We want to be regularly informed on the evolution of sectors in difficulty in order to react if necessary".

Another priority announced by the Luxembourg Presidency was the continuation and finalisation of discussions regarding a fruit, vegetables and milk programme for schools in the Grand Duchy - a motion supported by dairy agriculturalists but which has not yet been brought fully into force.

Following the concern expressed by Luxembourgish dairy farmers, a dairy crisis meeting has been organised for tomorrow, 1 September 2015.
