On Friday 13 May 2016, the Ville de Luxembourg will be holding an open day for its 'Klouschtergaart', a site dedicated entirely to plants traditionally grown in Luxembourg and their conservation.

During the open day, the public will have the opportunity to discover this 3000 m2 garden located at the foot of the rocher du Bock. It containes a special microclimate enabling it to grow its 72 native species which includes various kinds of lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, beans, peppers and spinach.

Throughout the day, Klouschtergaart gardeners and Parks Department officials will guide visitors through the garden, presenting ways to harvest the seed, sharing their tips for growing plants and explaining the importance of traditional agro-biodiversity for the survival of species grown in the region.

The open day will also be the occasion for the Ville de Luxembourg to distribute seed packets harvested from the Klouschtergaart to visitors whilst supplies last. Information on the different plants as well as garderns' advice will be available as a PDF document on the Ville de Luxembourg's website here, or upon request from the Parks Department at 4796-2687.

The open day will take place from 10:00 to 18:00, with an official opening in the presence of Luxembourg City mayor, Lydie Polfer, and deputy mayor in charge of environmental matters, Viviane Loschetter, planned for 11:00. Entry is free and no registration is required. The Klouschtergaart can be accessed by rue Plaetis or rue Sosthène Weis.
