On Tuesday 3 May 2016, the Minister of Housing, Marc Hansen, and the Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, presented the details of the transaction between the state and ArcelorMittal which will see 60 ha of brownfield sites developed into housing, shops and an intercommunal recovery centre.

This will predominantly involve the site of the old mill in Dudelange (39 ha), the former sit of the Circuit Foil in Wiltz (7.7 ha) and Eucosider in Petange (5.5 ha), as well as agricultural land in Balvaux (5.15 ha). These grounds can be transformed into nearly 1,500 houses for nearly 3,500 residents and more than 126,000 m2 of retail space.

A site of about two hectares in Esch-Lallange has also been included, which will form part of the implementation of an intercommunal rescue centre for firefighters, civil protection and the Grand Ducal Police.
