Luxembourg heating equipment supplier Buderus has announced a new initiative aimed at increasing the connectivity rate of boilers in the Grand Duchy.

From 1 July 2016, all new meter connections or replacements will be performed through a smart meter, enabling the remote raising of energy consumption and the transmission of billing information to the customer. This will aim to provide the client with a permanent overview of their energy consumption so they can avoid unwanted surprises from their annual bill statement.

The gradual replacement of registered meters forms part of the 20-20-20 energy efficiency objectives of the European Union, as well as the growing development of home mobility.

It is no longer possible to remain unaware of energy efficiency when building or renovating a house. Buderus stated that an intelligent heating system can increase every day comfort whilst controlling consumption through on application on their smartphone and expressed its aim to distinguish itself on the Luxembourg market by bringing innovation in several areas, including the increased connectivity rate of boilers in the Grand Duchy.

Currently, less than 5% of houses in Luxembourg benefit from this tool, in contrast to the Netherlands where connectivity is almost everywhere. According to Buderus, equipping a house is nonetheless very simple, even if the house in question is not new, and an installation from 2004 can benefit from this technology.

The web interface allows for the remote control of the entire heating system using a data transmission tool. The Logamatic TC 100 adjusts the heating and hot water through an application whilst saving energy. If it detects a presence at the house, it interlocks the boiler and lowers the temperature automatically if no one is around. The consumption of hot water for the shower can also be regulated through a timer.
