The Jan De Nul Group will be providing an installation vessel to a project by EDF Energy Renewables to develop an offshore wind farm near the port of Blyth in Northumberland.

MHI Vestas will supply five of the world's most powerful wind turbines (V164-8.0 MW), the installation of which will be performed using one of the Group's installation vessels and will be completed by the Vole au Vent ship, developed specifically for this purpose. At 140m, the ship is one of the largest of its kind and can lift up to 1,400 tonnes.

"Jan De Nul will be one of the first companies to install this new mega turbine and obviously we are very proud to participate in this innovative project for one of the most important players in the market," commented Peter De Pooter, Area Manager Renewables at the Jan De Nul Group.

The 41.5 MW Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project is being developed by EDF Energy Renewables and will be the first wind energy project to use the 66 kV electrical infrastructure and hybrid gravity-monopile foundations. The turbines will be installed in water depths of up to 45m, at a distance of 5.7 kilometres of the coast of Blyth, north of Newcastle.

The installation has been scheduled for the third quarter of 2017.
