On 25 October 2016, as part of the Solar4business initiative, the Hesperange municipality and IMS Luxembourg organised a conference aimed at promoting the use of solar energy in businesses.

At the recent solar energy conference, speakers discussed the advantages of changing to photovoltaic and thermal energy systems in the aim to encourage businesses to be more eco-responsible.

Speakers from the Hesperange municipality and the Ministry of Economy, as well as from Enovos, Energieagence and BGL BNP Paribas took part in the event where around 40 participants had the opportunity to better understand existing mechanisms for developing solar projects in the electric and thermic sectors. For instance, Enovos has developed a programme which promotes energy-saving tasks and work.

At a national level, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Economy has set objectives for 2020 which involves achieving a rate of 11% renewable energy in total and 10% in the transport sector.
These initiatives follow the Climate Pact which aims to fight climate change among other things. The Hesperange municipality has already achieved a rate of 50%, as laid out by the pact, and aims to reach 75% from next year.

IMS Luxembourg is currently helping the different municipalities and businesses in the Grand Duchy in regard to communication and collaboration with the pact. One of IMS’s aims is to encourage new initiatives and good practices in the area of sustainable development in Luxembourg and Europe.
