Luxembourg Minister of Health, Lydia Mutsch and Minister of the Environment, Carole Dieschbourg, along with her German counterpart, Barbara Hendricks, have sent a joint letter to the French Minister of the Environment, Energy and the Sea, Ségolène Royal, regarding their concerns of a possible extension of French nuclear power stations.

The three Ministers emphasised their serious concerns and criticism of French nuclear power stations, such as the one in Cattenom. They insisted on the fact that they are taking “very seriously the worries of residents in the concerned border regions regarding the safety of French nuclear power stations situated near the German and Luxembourgish borders.”

As such, Lydia Mutsch, Carole Dieschbourg and Barbara Hendricks have asked Minister Ségolène Royal to consider these concerns and to not support a new extension of these nuclear power stations of 40 more years.

Considering the fact that current discussions concerning the implementation of French law on energy transition will have concrete implications on the calendar and criteria for closing such nuclear power stations, the three ministers proposed a future joint meeting to Ségolène Royal in which discuss the subject in more detail.
