Business accelerator programme, Security Start-up Challenge was launched in Luxembourg on Tuesday, 26 May, with twenty-three start-ups from twelve different countries from around the world (India, USA, Israel etc.) on hand to deepen their skills and knowledge in cyber-security and business management, through an exchange with field experts.

Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider was also present to watch the official launch of the global contest – the first of its kind in the digital world – that is geared towards the founders of start-ups in information security, for Fintech, Big Data, Mobile and Health.

He recalled Luxembourg’s longstanding efforts to offer the best conditions to start-ups in the cyber-security field, “This Security Start-up Challenge” shows that Luxembourg has managed to establish itself as a trusted partner in the ICT world. We are strongly committed to provide ICT start-ups, and particularly those in cyber-security, with an adequate ecosystem, supplying the necessary support for their development,” he said.

The final contest will take place in Boston, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The three winners will take home a prize sum of $80,000 and will benefit from the support of a development programme for their start-up.

The start-up finalists were pre-selected following preparatory workshops held in Singapore and San Francisco.

The contest was organised by Kaspersky Lab, world pioneer in security solutions, along with Mangrove Capital Partners, a venture capital firm based in Luxembourg, and ABRT Venture Fund, an investment fund, whose managers created Veeam Software, global leader in software virtualisation.
