Catherine Nunes, one of the winners of the 45th National Young Scientists Contest Luxembourg, has scooped the bronze medal at the International Environment and Sustainability Project Olympiad (INESPO) held from 28 May to 3 June 2016 in Amsterdam and Utrecht.

The 15-year-old Luxembourg resident won over the jury with her passion for robotics and mathematics, manifested through an innovative robot prototype "Uno Stalker", which aims to help people with Alzheimer's disease.

The project took into account that patients with Alzheimer's disease often try and escape the monitoring of their caregivers or home helpers, meaning that they can get lost which holds serious potential consequences. With this in mind, Catarina built and programmed a little robot companion to follow patients in all circumstances, meaning that relatives of the patient can quickly find them.

Catarina's inventive project was enthusiastically received by both the jury and the Dutch public alike, and the young scientist and innovator announced that she has already started work on the next prototype.

This year, the INESPO hosted 105 international projects from 13 to 18 year olds from 45 different countries. Each project offered innovative, original and sustainable solutions to important social issues.
