POST Luxembourg has become the first operator in Luxembourg to implement VoLTE/ Wi-Fi Calling technology for its mobile phone calls.

For the first time in Luxembourg, POST is using 4G phone calls, also known as Voiceover LTE or VoLTE. These phone calls have been made as a result of Voiceover Wi-Fi technology (VoWiFi) via the internet.

Whilst POST had been proposing 4G/4G+ to its clients for years, this is only available now for mobile internet. The calls are currently still made via 2G and 3G networks, but that will soon change, as POST has just succeeded to make its first 4G calls in Luxembourg.

This new technology has several advantages, for instance the time taken to make a call is reduced and the audio quality improved. Moreover, as this saves energy, 4G calls preserve battery life.

Finally, receiving a 4G call does not reduce the speed of the internet connection.

POST has also started using Wi-Fi Calling technology which allows phone calls in places which are difficult to access, such as in a cave or underground parking.

Claude Strasser, Managing Director of POST Luxembourg, has explained that: “These two major innovations show our desire to offer our clients the best possible communication experience and to continually invest in the improvement of our mobile network’s performance.”
