The Luxembourg Minister for Public Service and Administrative Reform, Dan Kersch, has revealed the Grand Duchy’s Cloud technology strategy.

Luxembourg, which is already heavily involved in the digital era and dedicated to offering the quickest and most efficient services to citizens and businesses, has unveiled its latest strategy for the use of Cloud technology by administrations.

As a response to businesses’ and the public’s expectations that the State offer accessible and direct information, this new Cloud strategy simplifies services and the diffusion of information via new technological solutions.

Luxembourg is already involved in the digital era, as its Digital Lëtzebuerg initiative proves, and aims to respond to new matters in this sector in a coordinated and thought-out way.

As such, Cloud is an innovative solution which allows requested access to IT resources and applications via the internet. It prevents users from having to invest in expensive applications which must be installed internally in order to ensure its maintenance and security. There are also different types of Cloud, with the public Cloud simultaneously serving several organisations and the private one being dedicated to one single organisation.

The move towards Cloud offers many advantages to administrations and could even be essential for the use of future technologies, such as BigData and Machine Learning. Cloud offers these administrations access to an important catalogue of solutions, which can be quickly put into place. Moreover, these solutions offer a lot of flexibility in the use of resources and can help reduce costs.

The state’s role will be to maintain an inventory of the Cloud solutions which have been used and, using existing solutions and contracts, ensure they are shared in the aim of making savings and allowing everyone to benefit from the established knowledge.

On the basis of this established framework, Luxembourgish administrations will henceforth pursue their digital transformation, to ensure every better performing services for businesses and the public.
