Mobile payment solution provider Digicash has reportedly now developed into the insurance and restaurant sectors of Luxembourg.

The aim of Digicash is to offer a quick and convenient payment opportunity to both iOS and Android mobile device users, and has achieved significant success in Luxembourg since its inception, accounting for over 60% of the country's invoices at the end of 2014 and reaching 55,000 installations in January of this year. The payment app has now been downloaded more than 65,000 times and is issued in the four major retail banks in Luxembourg, these being BCEE, POST Finance, BIL and BGL BNP Paribas.

The payment solution has now expanded into the hospitality sector, with the Digicash QR Code restaurant cash register system created by Prosys. This new system prints the Digicash QR Code directly onto the restaurant bills generated by the cash register, enabling customers to pay the due amount in seconds through their smartphone.

The innovative system is expected to facilitate and speed up restaurant payment by allowing restaurant employees to bypass the collection process and instead allow the operation to be directly managed by the client. The staff therefore save time by avoiding unnecessary trips to the table collect cash or bring a card machine, whilst the customer can immediately carry out the transaction and quickly leave if needed.

The Digicash App also now allows users to manage tips during checkout, with the total amount to be paid then automatically changed before the client validates the updated amount.

Digicash also announced it foray into the field of insurance, with a collaboration with AXA Luxembourg and Baloise Insurance meaning that 90% of insurance invoices issued in Luxembourg, excluding direct debit, will be equipped with the QR Code Digicash.

Digicash stated that with the provision of this 'universal' coverage payment solution, it hopes to offer the highly competitive insurance sector a novel factor in customer relations, namely a high-value innovative service available to its customers.

Bill payments continue to constitute the main context in which Digicash is represented, whether in energy, telecoms or the public sector. Digicash claimed that due to its capacity to allow clients to adjust amounts and easily manage invoices, the Digicash solution continues to present a significant service to Luxembourg's population.
