Housing Minister Marc Hansen was present as the earth was broken for two residences built by the National Society of Affordable Housing (SNHBM) in Mersch on Friday last.

The houses benefit from a particularly advantageous quality-price ratio, and are sold to persons who do not own another dwelling, who will live in the dwelling themselves and who meet certain income conditions.

All homes are sold under the long-term lease for a period of 99 years. This right applies only to the land, which will remain the property of the company. The dwellings are sold in full ownership.

In Mersch, the development will integrate eleven single-family homes and two residences with nine apartments for social rental for completion by early 2019. The municipality of Mersch will make the land available for long leasehold purposes, which has a considerable impact on the selling prices of the dwellings.

The Gala and Ostara residences located at Beschmontsbongert will consist of nine housing units and ten parking spaces in the two underground garages. The apartments will be built in accordance with the prevailing criteria for passive buildings (energy class A), and will be composed as follows:

1 apartment with 3 bedrooms: +/- 97 m2 with access for people with reduced mobility

1 apartment with 3 bedrooms: +/- 108 m2 with access for people with reduced mobility

2 apartments with 2 bedrooms: +/- 81 m2

3 duplex apartments with 2 bedrooms: +/- 109 m2

2 duplex apartments with 3 bedrooms: +/- 123 m2

The architect for the two residences is Martin Boehler.

Single family homes, located on Rue Nicolas Welter, Rue Colmar Berg and Rue de Luxembourg, will have a surface area of 135 m2 to 152 m2, with three to four bedrooms, and will also be built in accordance with the prevailing criteria for passive buildings (energy class A).
