The Institut Luxembourgeois de Régulation (ILR) has released statistics concerning postal services in Luxembourg between 2013 and 2015.

The ILR has published its first document on the postal service market in Luxembourg, focusing on key figures from 2013 to 2015. The figures mentioned concern the number of postal service providers and the turnover for these providers, as well as national and cross-border traffic.

The ILR collected and calculated the statistics cited in the report from active postal services in Luxembourg in 2015 and 2016.

In terms of the statistics themselves, the report shows that the total revenue in the postal sector rose by 0.5% between 2014 and 2015, to 191 million euros. The sector encompasses more than 1,800 employees, over 1,000 of whom work for Post Luxembourg.

Regarding postal services, a distinction was made between national and cross-border postal traffic, both inbound and outbound. The services include the collection, sorting, dispatch and distribution of post, including priority and non-priority services. At a national level, the number of post sent reached over 150.9 million units in 2015, which represents a 1% decrease compared to 2014.

Inbound cross-border post came to a total of almost 26.1 million units, whilst outbound cross-border post rose to 30.5 million units. Meanwhile, post on the national market represented 73% of all traffic with almost 207.6 million units dealt with at a national and cross-border level. As such, cross-border traffic made up 27% of the total traffic.

As for the universal postal service, letters and post cards, magazines and newspapers, as well as small packages made up 98% of the total registered traffic.
