On Wednesday, Lufthansa indicated that it is to divest itself of its 13% shareholding in Luxair and wants to start operatingits own route between Frankfurt and Luxembourg, a route that is currently operated by Luxair on a codeshare agreement between the two airlines.

Luxair's shareholding is currently split between the BCEE/Spuerkeess (21.81%), BIL (13.14%), LuxairGroup (13.01%) and Lufthansa (13%), with the Luxembourg state owning the remaining shares. The sares are currently capitalised at €13.75 million. In addition, Luxair owns 42.43% of Cargolux.

Currently Luxair operates 4 flights/day to Frankfurt, 7 days/week.

Following the announcement, the LCGB trade union sent a letter to Luxembourg's Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Development, François Bausch, requesting an emergency meeting to clarify the current situation in order to analyse the degree of urgency and the reasons motivating the withdrawal. Their concern is for the jobs of Luxair staff.
