Customs & Excise say they have encountered a disturbing number of failures to hold required documentation and among inspected lorry drivers on Luxembourg’s roads.

According to the agency, 116 drivers received warnings for not carrying a valid Eurovignette, which certifies payment of the road-user charge.

In addition, officials were able to manipulate the exhaust systems of the respective vehicles, in collaboration with the inspectors of SNCT's technical control service.

On one truck, serious deficiencies were found in the brake system and in the tyres.

A total of 121 tickets amounting to penalties of €30,040 were issued.

The inspections also covered high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, as well as from the Ministry of Finance.
