Actors on being called for auditions to take part in 'The Pillowman', a three-act play by Martin McDonagh which will be performed at the Mierscher Kulturhaus from 5 to 9 October 2016.

Premiered in 2003 at the National Theatre in London 'The Pillowman' is Martin McDonagh's first play not set in Ireland. This seventh play of the playwright, who was born and raised in London to Irish parents, has received the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play, the 2005 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play, as well as two Tony Awards. Martin McDonagh is also known as a screenplay writer and film director, with his short film 'Six Shooter' earning him a 2006 Academy Award.

Blending comedy and tragedy, 'The Pillowman' follows short story author Katurian as he lands himself in hot water with two detectives, Ariel and Tupolski, due to the graphic nature of his works which depict violence against children and bear similarities to recent child murders. Katurian's brother Michal has confessed to the murders and implicated Katurian, leading to the latter attempting to save his stories from destruction as he resigns himself to his execution. The inspiration behind Katurian's stories is evoked through narrations and re-enactments thereof.
