The Luxembourg government has released data concerning the statistics of international protection seekers in the country for the month of June 2015.

The number of people seeking international protection was 101 this month, an increase of 11 from last month and 38 for the same month of 2014. The total number of those seeking this protection, from January until June 2015, is 544, which represents an increase of 101 people for the same period last year.

The most common home country of international protection seekers this month was Kosovo in Europe (31); Syria in Asia (12); and Eritrea in Africa (4). These countries represent 24,63%, 6,8% and 4,04% of the overall applications for international protection in Luxembourg in 2015, respectively.

For the month of June 2015, the majority (37) were refused international protection, with six attributed the status of refugee and five awarded a status conferred by subsidiary protection.

Three people were transferred to Italy in compliance with the Dublin Regulation III, which determines the EU Member State which is responsible for the examination of a particular international protection application. One person was also each transferred to Germany; to Switzerland; to Spain; to Hungary; and to Poland in accordance with this EU Regulation.

In total, 44 asylum-seekers returned to their country of origin this month, which was an increase of 1 from June. 38 returned of their own volition and 6 returned under obligation.
