The art of batik, in which cloth is decorated using wax and dye, is part of an ancient tradition in South-East Asia. Contemporary batik, while using the traditional techniques, is markedly different from the time-honoured formal styles. The artist may equally use etching or stencils, combine batik with oil or acrylic painting, or work with different materials.

Three artists with Asian roots who have become permanent residents in Luxembourg - Grace Gnad (Indonesia), Julia Tronnier (Malaysia) and Thelma Nijman (Philippines) - have joined together for an exhibition “Wonders of Batik - Magic of Oil” where they will exhibit their batik art, as well as oil and acrylic paintings, from 7-9 October in the Caves Bernard-Massard (22 route du Vin, L-6794 Grevenmacher).

The vernissage will be held on 6 October from 19:00 - 21:00 while the exhibition is open daily from 10:00 - 18:00. On 9 October there will be a batik demonstration from 15:00 - 16:00.

Entrance is free of charge.
