Fondation IDEA’s studies have revealed that, as predicted, the rate of employment in Luxembourg has risen to a rate which matches recent changes.

The total rate of paid employees in the Grand Duchy has increased by 3% in a year, with notable differences between the number of cross-border workers, which has risen by 4%, and that of resident workers, which has increased by 2%. Moreover, among resident workers, the number of Luxembourg nationals has risen by only 1% whereas that of foreign residents from Europe and third countries has experienced an increase of 2.5% and 8% respectively.

In addition to these long expected and now confirmed trends, it is perhaps more noteworthy that, in the second quarter of 2016, the number of employed foreign residents overtook the number of employed national residents. Luxembourge nationals have now become the third group of worker in the country, behind foreign residents and cross-border workers.
