Cercle Cité is currently hosting an exhibition entitled “Picasso and Animal- Ceramic and Graphic Works” which will take place until 15 January 2017.

Cercle Cité will be presenting Picasso’s pottery and graphic works for the first time in Luxembourg with this ongoing exhibition, which focuses on the multiple interactions between Picasso’s ceramic and graphic works under the theme of animals.

Picasso used the theme of the animal to express subjects which he considered very important such as life, war, peace, sacrifice and death. An expert of myths and the use of animals in the history of art, the artist reinvented meanings known to the human imagination since antiquity.

For Picasso, pottery, which had interested him since adolescence, was a form of artistic expression in itself, much like painting, design, sculpting and graphic arts.

The exhibition will also present a selection of ceramics engravings, preparatory drawings as well as photographs by David Douglas Duncan coming from Spanish and German museums as well as private collections, which shine new light on Picasso’s creative process in these different disciplines.

There is a mini shop at the exhibition featuring jewellery by Luxembourgish artistAnne-Marie Herckes, pottery work by Emileceramic, and educational editions of Picasso’s works in French and English.

The exhibition is open daily between 11:00 and 19:00 until 15 January 2017.

Free guided tours of the exhibition take place every Saturday at 11:00. For families, there are free tours on 7 and 14 January 2017 at 11:00. No reservation is needed.
