To raise awareness of human trafficking and children’s rights, the United Nations and Time for Equality will present a screening of Jeffrey D. Brown’s film ‘Sold’ on Monday 19 June 2017 at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg City at 19:00.
Sold is a feature film adaptation of the globally acclaimed novel by Patricia McCormick. Based on true stories, it is the story of Lakshmi who journeys from a pastoral, rural village in Nepal to a gritty brothel/prison called ‘Happiness House’ in Kolkata, India. Through one extraordinary girl’s story, Sold illustrates the brutality of child trafficking, which affects millions of children around the globe every year.
The event is under the aegis of Ciné-ONU, for the first time in Luxembourg. It will be held in English and is free of charge.
The film (1 hour 34 minutes) will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with Irene Wintermayr, Policy officer at ILO Benelux, Fabienne Rossler, Secretary-General of the Commission consultative des Droits de l’Homme (CCDH), and Thomas Kauffmann, Executive Director of ECPAT Luxembourg.
There will also be opening remarks by Director Jeffrey D. Brown live from London, as well as an introduction and moderation by Rosa Brignone and Karen Wauters from Time For Equality.
