The Special Jury Prize was awarded to Kills On Wheels by Hungarian director Attila Till. The Critics’ Prize, awarded by a separate Press Jury, went unanimously to the Polish film 11 Minutes by Jerzy Skolimowski. Another Polish production, the film Planet Single by Slovenian director Mitja Okorn, won the Audience Award. And, finally, the Audience Awards for Best Short Films went to Romantik by Mateusz Rakowicz (fiction), Happy End by Jan Saska (animation) and Education by Emi Buchwald (documentary).

Serbian actress and director Mirjana Karanović, the president of the International Jury, commented the jury’s decision regarding the Grand Prix winner Mellow Mud and said: “a well-structured and developed story, both sensual and subtle, about a young woman coming into her own in a country also coming into its own. Though it touches on dark themes such as corruption, forbidden relationships, generational conflict and family responsibilities, the film has a lightness of touch throughout. Through his use of the camera and a reliance on visuals over dialogue, the director shows a surprising maturity and lead actress Elina Vaska is an exciting discovery.”

As regards the Special Jury Prize for Kills On Wheels, Nico Simon, the president of Europa Cinemas and member of the International Jury, said: “a surprising combination of genres, a fusion of drama, crime story, action and comic film that subverts expectations and stereotypes. It is an unexpected story populated with rich and touching characters who, to an extent, highlight themes and situations they themselves are confronted with in real life, making audiences laugh, cry and think about serious issues as well.”

The Press Jury composed of three members of the Luxembourg Film Critics Association (ALPC)who explained their verdict with these words: “At the age of 77, Skolimowski gives proof again of his astonishing vitality by injecting a refreshing energy into the codes of the contemporary action movie. Its explosive narrative and exploded structure, its ironic view on fatality, and its nervous but precise mise en scène, adding a surprising modernity, 11 Minutes offers an authentic lesson on what cinema can be.” (Karolina Markiewicz)

The Awards Ceremony was followed by the screening of the film A Good Wife directed by the President of the Jury Mirjana Karanović.
