On Saturday 15 October 2016, Luxembourg director and producer Pol Cruchten’s film ‘Voices from Chernobyl’ won the Grand Prix at the CineEco (Festival Internacional de Cinema Ambiantal da Serra da Estrela) Festival in Seia, Portugal.

The Luxembourg film, produced by Red Lion and financed by Film Fund Luxembourg, was screened during the opening of the festivities one week before the awards ceremony.

The jury praised the film’s exceptional perspective which focuses more on the world of Tchernobyl than on the catastrophe itself.

This is the fourth time that Cruchten’s film has won an award in an international film festival, after winning in Paris (France), Minneapolis (USA) and Goias (Brazil).

‘Voices from Chernobyl’, the original title of which is ‘La Supplication’, is an adaptation of the book by Svetlana Alexievitch, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2015, about the nuclear disaster in Tchernobyl. The film is representing Luxembourg for the run-up to the short-list for the 2017 Oscars. It will be released in French cinemas on 23 November 2016.
