The third instalment of the Dan Brown series of books featuring symbolist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) who wakes up in a hospital in Florence, Italy, haunted by images of Dante's Inferno and with amnesia. As a killer advances down the hospital corridor, he stumbles in his escape with Dr. Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones). They find themselves being chased by various unknown individuals and groups, with the audience being also treated to clips of philanthropist Bertrand Zobrist who was apparently killed for his beliefs on controlling the world's population.
In attempting to unravel the mystery, including regaining his memory, Langdon discovers that he himself stole Dante's death mask, and therefore assumes more foes along the way. Another character then arrives on the scene, Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey (Sidse Babett Knudsen) of the World Health Organisation (WHO) who also has a direct interest in this case.
The chase is at times fast-paced and at times academic as he explores different aspects of Dante's works as well as his life. The trail, against the clock, takes him to Padova and Venice, as well as Istanbul, with stunning cinematography - including aerial shots - in all locations. The finale takes place underground and the main characters getting very wet as they try to stop a madman from unleashing a global virus that would wipe out half of the world's population.
Fans of the previous Ron Howard films featuring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon will not be disappointed!
