Adventure, 129 mins, 12+

This fifth instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series of blockbusters - which started off in 2003 with "The Curse of the Black Perl" - sees Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) searching for the trident of Poseidon.

With Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), the some of will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Carina Smith (Kaya Scodelario) playing relatively central roles as they enlist the help of Captain Jack Sparrow to search for the trident of Poseiden, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas, and which would bring his father back from the dead.

Along the way they come across the fearsome Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) who normally leave just one survivor from each conquest so they can tell the tale. He is after the same booty...

There sets the scene for over two hours of summer adventure that includes incredible underwater scenes features dead pirates and sea creatures, not to mention galleons and more. Apart from the special effects, the storyline is not overly complicated (as has been in the past) and there is some character development, particularly regarding Carina Smith and Captain Barbossa, whereas Captain Jack Sparrow seems to bounce from one impending disaster to another. And it is very funny in places too.

Entirely watchable as a good, entertaining, family summer film.
