Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster) and starring Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 5 & 6 & 7; Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; Triple 9; Knight and Day), Chris Pine (Star Trek; Rise of the Guardians; Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit; Into the Woods); David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything; Queen & Country; The Fifth Estate; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas)

Action adventure, 141 mins; 12+

A far cry from the 5 seasons of the tv series of the same name from 1975-79 starring Lynda Carter, this big screen version is worth the wait and all the hype. Gal Gadot stars as Diana, princess of the Amazons, and trained as a warrior with lightning reflexes and a ruthless streak to protect the world from Ares, the son of Zeus and the God of War.

One day the Amazonian's idyllic island of apparent paradise is turned upside down when Diana rescues an Allied spy, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who is trying to escape from the Nazis in WWII. Diana accompanys Steve to London where they meet his boss, Sir Patrick (David Thewlis). Steve had stolen a notebook from Dr. Maru who is developing chemical weapons for use along the front, just as peace is about the be brokered by way of an armistice. Steve assembles a motley crew and, together with Diana, travel to Belgium in an effort to find the weapons factory and destroy it... But Diana is after Ares who she believes is behind the war...

With an intersting storyline, great acting by Gal Gadot in particular, and stunning special effects, particularly in slow-motion fight scenes - akin to those in the Matrix - and a stunning soundtrack, Wonder Woman has been brought into the 21st century with a new look and a relatively modern setting.

Definitely one to see over the summer, one for the whole family.
