On Wednesday 8 July 2015 at 18:30, the Cinema du Sud season will feature the screening of "La Soif du Monde" (A Thirsty World), in French with English sub-titles, at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

Synopsis: A Thirsty World looks at one of the major challenges of our time concerning the survival of populations: water. Shot in twenty countries, the film includes spectacular aerial photographs by Yann Arthus-Bertrand with the harsh reality of those who are deprived of water and wage a daily battle to get it. Water has become one of the most precious natural resources of our planet.

The screening will be followed by a discussion on access to water in Burkina Faso.

This year, a total of 15 Luxemburgish NGOs are participating in the "Cinéma du Sud" film festival. The project was launched in 2010 to raise public awareness of themes related to development, through the medium ofcinema; This year, The Luxembourg Chronicle is delighted to be Media Partner to this festival / series of films.

The theme of the festival changes every year; in 2015 the focus will be on post-2015 development goals, for instance the following topics: consumption, peace, employment, education, gender equality, biodiversity, access to water, inequalities, hunger/nutrition and climate change.

Usually a significant proportion of the films are in English.

The concept of the festival in 2015 is one film per month (every second Wednesday of the month at 18:30 at Ciné Utopia in Limpertsberg), except for August and December. As every year, each film will be followed by the intervention of an expert speaker and the public will have the opportunity to ask him/her questions.
