In the context of 'Le monde en doc' ('The World in Docs'), La Cinémathèque, etika and ATTAC Luxembourg will be holding a screening of the film 'The UK Gold' on Monday 7 December 2015.

This "fascinating, disturbing and ultimately, gripping" (Screen International) documentary examines what some refer to as the 'second British Empire', Britain's secretive status as a tax haven for large corporations. Directed by Mark Donne, this documentary tells the story of a contemporary crisis, the collusion between political and financial power and the opaque practice rooted in institutions and traditions that are the pride of the UK. The Guardian newspaper has described is as "the kind of movie to get the blood boiling & steam hissing out of your ears".

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Markus Meinzer, representative of the Tax Justice Network who will detail the many strengths of London City which make it the prime tax haven in the world. Markus Meinzer will also explain how the City constitutes a major obstacle to any attempt to reform European and global finance.

Both the film and discussion will be in English. Participation costs €3.70 at standard rate and is free-of-charge for NewB cooperators upon presentation of an investment certificate. The screening will begin at 20:30 at the Cinemathèque, Place du Théâtre, Luxembourg.
