Utopia Cinemas has announced the opening of sales for the live HD broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

The first broadcasts were streamed to the Luxembourg public in 2008, enabling music lovers to listen, live and feel the biggest operas through satellite technology.

Âs in previous years, this new season will offer a chosen selection of ten operas by both renowned composers and modern artists. The 2016-2017 season will begin on Saturday 8 October 2016 with "Tristan and Isolde" by Richard Wagner. A cocktail reception will be offered during the hour between each MET opera.

Tickets for the new season will be on sale from 9 May 2016 in the Utopia, Utopolis Kirchberg and Utopolis Belval cinemas, directly at the kiosk in either single ticket of subscription form, or online (only single tickets available). The programme is as follows:

  • 21 January 2017, 18:55 : Romeo and Juliet (Gounod) - New production. Duration: 3h30.
  • 25 February 2017, 18:55 : Rusalka (Dvorak) - New production. Duration: 4h05
  • 11 March 2017, 18:55 : La Traviata (Verdi). Duration: 2h54
  • 25 March 2017, 17:55 : Idomeneo (Mozart). Duration: 4h18
  • 22 April 2017, 18:55 : Eugene Onegin (Tchaïkovski). Duration: 3h57
  • 13 May 2017, 18:30 : Der Rosenkavalier (R. Strauss) - New production. Duration: 4h47.

Tickets at normal price cost 32€ per place, whilst those at reduced price cost 27€ per place. A subscription for the season, including 10 operas per person, costs 300€, whilst a discounted subscription costs 240€. None of the sessions in th subscriptio can be refunded even if the viewer is not able to attend one of the operas.
