As of 5 May 2017, the Lëtzebuerg City Museum will be housing its newly redesigned permanent exhibition, entitled “Luxembourg Story”.

The Lëtzebuerg City Museum, formerly the Musée d’Histoire de la Ville, will open the doors of its new permanent exhibition in May, which deals with 1000 years of urban history in Luxembourg.

On the three lower levels of the museum, as well as in a space dedicated to urban planning, the new exhibition will tell the turbulent history of Luxembourg City from the start of the 10th Century to today.

The exhibition is divided chronologically into four major periods and 17 themes, which aim to highlight the most significant historical features of each era.

The aim of the exhibition is to offer the public a concise introduction to the history of the city, with a corresponding selection of objects, films, photos and multimedia applications.

To foreign visitors and new residents, The Luxembourg Story offers a first orientation in the history of Luxembourg while it offers the inhabitants the opportunity to explore in detail the past and present of their city. Moreover, as part of its educational activities, the museum specialises in school classes and offers interactive activities.

This renovation comes a decade after the last redevelopment of the permanent exhibition, in order to cater to the evolution of collections, and to stay in step with the city’s development.

The scenography has been designed by the Tido Brussig Szenerien Munich office.
