Now in its sixth year, and getting bigger each time, Like a Jazz Machine 2017 in Dudelange offers an open range of contemporary jazz highlighting original creations and young talents, as well as focusing on cross-border incursions in other musical genres.

This year, fifteen bands and ensembles with more than 70 musicians will share the stage of the CCRD opderschmelz for four consecutive days of pure jazz, starting on Ascension Thursday, 25 May.

Many artists in this year’s program come back to the roots and many represent new exciting trends. The festival celebrates jazz in all its forms, and ranges from tradition to modernity. The festival features big stars and living legends, either as leaders or as guest stars, world-renowned artists like Carla Bley, Joachim Kühn, Erik Truffaz, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Manu Katché, Nik Bärtsch, Nguyen Le, but also award-winning, confirmed or emerging talents like Thomas de Pourquery, Joce Minniel, Shabaka Hutchings, Aki Rissanen, Yvan Paduart & Quentin Dujardin, stay for outstanding and pioneering performances.

A unique occasion was offered to Bojan Z and Jérôme Klein, commissioned to develop original projects in residence at the CCRD opderschmelz, with complete artistic freedom, yet tightly linked with the venue and the festival.

A particular emphasis is again given to Jazz from Luxembourg, more dynamic and creative than ever before. Milestones will be set by Pol Belardi’s Force, Dock in Absolute and the Michel Reis Japan Quartet.

Throughout the event, creations, encounters and challenges are to take place around the convergence of various cultures, generations and styles in a large melting pot, in a spirit of exchange and conviviality.

“Like a Jazz Machine” is an urban and eclectic festival for all ages, dedicated to enhance various moods and to keep on turning the resourceful machineries of today’s jazz all over the City of Dudelange, the whole of Luxembourg and the extended European borderland.
