Five young musicians have volunteered to perform in a charity concert at the Philharmonie in order to raise funds for the Caritas Luxembourg initiative to support the homeless in Luxembourg; to cover the costs of venue hire, the organisers have decided to launch one of the first Luxembourgish crowdfunding campaigns on www.kickstarter.com:  through this campaign, they hope to raise at least €2,200.

The organiser of this project is Fingertips ASBL, a non-profit organisation founded by two young Luxembourgian musicians. "We are thrilled to be one of the first kickstarter project in Luxembourg," said Shaun Motiani, co-founder of Fingertips ASBL. "With the collaboration of our brilliant musicians, we would want this project to make a difference for the homeless people in Luxembourg.”

The charity concert will take place on 28 September at the Philharmonie of Luxembourg (entrance is free, however reservations are obligatory) and includes chamber music works by Schostakovich and Schubert. All the donations collected from the evening of the concert will go to Caritas’ initiatives for homeless people, notably the project ‘Rebuilding - se reconstruire par des activités sportives et artistiques’. This initiative aims to not only provide shelter for the homeless in Luxembourg, but also to reintegrate them into society through the organisation of sports and arts activities.

The crowdfunding campaign was launched on 20 July. Through this campaign on kickstarter.com, the organisers hope to raise at least part of the financing required for the success of the concert. Backers of the campaign can choose from a variety of different rewards, which range from handwritten thank-you notes to music lessons with the artists and even to a free private recital. Also a reward: the opportunity to meet the artists in an evening walk around Luxembourg or over dinner.

This is not the first collaboration between Fingertips and Caritas: in 2012, Fingertips managed to raise over €5,000 for asylum seekers in Luxembourg. What is new this time - and unique in Luxembourg - however, is the attempt to finance the fundraising event through crowdfunding.

The link to the kickstarter-campaign was published on 20 July on www.projectfingertips.com  and on the Fingertips Facebook page, www.facebook.com/projectfingertips.

The Fingertips initiative was launched in 2012 by Luxembourg musicians Chiahu "Chia-Chia" Lee and Shaun Motiani. The organisation's aim is to combine the support of charity projects and the promotion of talented artists in Luxembourg.

So far, Fingertips has raised over €15,000 for charities including the recent Nepal Earthquake (British Red Cross) and for the building of a boarding school for underpriviledged girls in Rajashtan (PADEM).
