On Thursday 9 June 2016, German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and pianist Lambert Orkis will take to the stage at the Philharmonie for a special concert in benefit of SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde emergency aid programme for children in Syria.

Anne-Sophie Mutter will be performing in Luxembourg as part of her European tour which will see her in Basel the day before and at the Philharmonie de Paris the following day.

It will not be the first time that the German musician has supported SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, having previously come to the association's aid in 2005 for child victims of the tsunami that ravaged Southeast Asia.

This time it is the overwhelming numbers of victims of the so-far five-year-long Syrian conflict that are in need of help. As always, the first victims are children and it is for this demographic that the Luxembourg branch of SOS is raising funds needed to establish emergency assistance in the war-torn country.

The programme, launched in autumn 2014 for one year and to 26,000 children by SOS Villages d'Enfants Syria, has been extended and provides support in Damascus, the rural governorate of Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and the coastal area near Tartous.

SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde finances several components: the temporary care centre for unaccompanie children in Aleppo; thress day care areas, two in Damascus and Aleppo where more than 8,700 children have already been received; the food aid programme for internally-displaced families, from which more than 23,500 people have already benefitted; and a nutritional support project whereby malnourished children are referred to medical partners.

This solidarity event is being organised with the support of CBP Quilvest. The programme for the evening will include pieces by Francis Poulenc, Maurice Ravel, Camille Saint-Saëns and Mozart with his sonata for violin and piano, as well as more contemporary work in the form of American Sebastian Currier.

The gala concert will take place at 20:00 on Thursday 9 June 2016 in the Grand Auditorium of the Philhermonie. Tickets cost either 170€, 125€ or 75€. To reserve, contact the Philharmonie at +352 26 32 26 32 or visit www.philharmonie.lu, or for more information see www.sosve.lu.
