Following the recent announcement that the latin-influenced Quintet of trumpeter Ernie Hammes and the traditional Jazz Trio of guitarist Greg Lamy will perform at the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest on 12 and 13 August, supported by music:LX, Luxembourg's music export board, both will also perform in New York City on their way to San Jose, on 11 August.

The Greg Lamy Trio and the Ernie Hammes Quintet will perform at 19:30m and 21:30 respectively, at the Club Bonafine in New York City.

Guitarist and composer Greg Lamy is no stranger to the jazz scene in New York from sharing the stage with Gretchen Parlato, Joshua Davis, to name a few; to performing at Smoke, 55 Bar, and the New York City Winter Jazz Festival. He returns tonight for a first appearance with his trio before heading to the San Jose Jazz Festival. A native of New Orleans, LA, Lamy has been living in Luxembourg since birth. He completed his guitar studies at Berklee College of Music, adding jazz to his classical training. Shortly after, he formed his Quartet which is still performing today at worldwide festivals such as Blues & Jazz Rallye (Luxembourg); Brussels Jazz Festival (Belgium); Chellah Jazz Festival in Rabat, Morocco; or in touring in various clubs in Brazil; Savannah, GA; Washington, DC; and Philadelphia, PA. In addition to his newly formed trio, Greg performs with guitarist Paulo Simoes with whom he toured in the Midwest this past April. He has released three albums with the Greg Lamy Quartet: “Meeting” (2013/Igloo Label); “I see you” (2009), and “What are you afraid of?” (2006) – and two albums with guitarist Paulo Simoes: “Two Guitars” (2015) and “Jazz Guitar Duo” (2011).

Luxembourg-born trumpeter Ernie Hammes returns to New York before heading to the San Jose Jazz Festival. Ernie studied classical music in Luxembourg and France before joining the Luxembourg Army Concert Band in 1987 to become their principal trumpet. In 1991, he started his jazz studies at the Conservatory of The Hague (NL), and then at the Manhattan School of Music with Lew Soloff. As a classical trumpeter, he has performed with the BBC Wales Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, Latvian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and with the Royal Albert Hall, London.  As a jazz musician he has performed with Paul Anka, Youssou N’Dour, Chaka Khan, Diane Schurr, Maynard Ferguson & Bip Bop Nouveau, The Dizzy Gillespie All Stars, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, James Moody, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Claude Bolling, Europool Jazz Orchestra, to name a few, and The Ernie Hammes Group founded in 1996.  An internationally acclaimed musician and composer, Ernie has played all over the world, including at the Blue Note, Jazz Standard, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola/ Jazz at the Lincoln Center, to name a few; he has also performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, San Jose Festival, and more. He has recorded six CD’s: “Festival”; “Stepwise”; “Night Lights”; “Trumpet Classics”, “Freed & Feier”; “MF Horn 6, Live at Ronnie’s” with Maynard Ferguson; and his latest latin-jazz CD “SanFrancha” released in 2011.  He is also recorded over 35 CDs as sideman, including “Above the Clouds” with the Amina Figarova Group. Finally, he was filmed performing with African singer Youssou N’Dour in “Retour à Gorée”, a musical documentary about jazz and slavery.
