SOS Faim Luxembourg today announced several events that will be organised by the NGO in the coming months.

On 23 September 2015, as part of the International Year of Soils, the renowned microbiologist couple Lydia and Claude Bourguignon will be at l'Athénée in Luxembourg for a public conference concerning the essential role of soils in the maintenance of biodiversity and guarantee of food.

The pair have conducted extensive research into the topic, with statistic studies based on over 6000 analyses of soil in Europe and around the world over the last 25 years. Their subsequent theories on quality criteria is now enshrined in the UN decision to declare 2015 the 'International Year of Soil'. The increased pressure exerted by the growth and development of Man on earth poses multiple threats to soils, including erosion, loss of organic matter, acidification and waterproofing.

On 14 October 2015, the 6th edition of the Cinéma du Sud festival, in conjunction with the 2015 European Year for Development, will screen the film '10 Milliarden - Wie Werden Wir Alle Satt?' ('How Can We All Get Fed?') by Valentin Thurn. The festival will involve a film screening at Ciné Utopia followed by a debate, with input from experts on the specific theme, which changes from edition to edition. Discussions centre around sustainable objectives for development, with regards to consumption; peace; work; education; gender; biodiversity; water; inequality; hunger; and climate change.

The projection on Wednesday 14 October will focus on the growth of the world's population, and predictions that by 2050 there will be a full ten billion people on Earth. Such a tremendous number could not be sustained by traditional means alone, so filmmaker Valentin Thurn attempts to show new ways in which the dilemma can be solved. Thurn will be in attendance at the screening to participate in talks afterwards.

On 21 November 2015, SOS Faim will present a special campaign evening at the Altrimenti cultural centre, entitled 'Changeons de menu!' ('Let's Change the Menu!) in the presence of the ARCAN theatre troupe from Burkina Faso. The aim of the campaign is to promote more responsible consumption practices, which are more respectful of people and the environment.

The evening will attempt to answer the following questions:
 - Why change the menu?
 - What is a food footprint?
 - How many planets would we need if all of the Earth's inhabitants ate like Luxembourg's?
 - What is the link between hunger and obesity?
