On Wednesday 5 April 2017, Luxembourg artist Ann Vinck presented a check for €4,560 to ASTI (Association for the Support of Immigrant Workers), to support the activities of its Ma'an Ensemble Zesummen project.

The painter, engraver and sculptor Ann Vinck’s donation to the ASTI project comes from the sale of Christmas cards, illustrated by unique engravings by the artist herself. Students (refugees and other foreign residents), teachers and volunteers attended the small ceremony, at which the cheque was presented.

This money was used for the purchase of materials needed by the 233 pupils of the Ma’an Ensemble Zesummen project’s courses, well as the financing of excursions in Luxembourg.

The Ma'an Ensemble Zesummen project is a structured approach to language learning, in which the pupils attend ten classes in literacy (for illiterate people), learning from the Latin alphabet (for those who use another alphabet), and intensive French classes with language practice sessions.

The project’s target audience are international asylum seekers and refugees with priority given to women. It aims to increase their language skills and their knowledge of their host society and its functioning through a form of language learning that promotes communication, understanding Luxembourg society, exchanges with residents, preparation for independent living and employability.

The project is supported financially by the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
