In preparation for the coming summer, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Red Cross and COPAS (Federation of Providers of the Aid and Care Sector), has issued a reminder on the government’s 2017 heat wave plan.

Thus, in the event of a heat wave during the summer of 2017, visits by a help and home care service are planned for elderly people who may have limited autonomy and limited social contacts in order to provide them with hydration and other assistance during hot spells.

Beyond awareness and information, on the ground interventions when temperatures climb represent a real public health need for fragile and isolated people.

As a result, the Heat Wave Plan proposes that individuals who are 75 years of age or older, living alone or with an invalid, having limited autonomy, and little or no insurance coverage, should register for supervisory visits and hydration assistance in the event of heat waves.

In order to protect the target population, a letter from the Health Directorate will be sent in coming days to persons aged 75 and over, except those housed in a long-stay institutions. This letter, in addition to an explanation of the criteria for registration, will include the registration form.

Concerned individuals are invited to submit this form before 15 May 2017 to the following address:
