Refugees Luxembourg is launching Ramadan in a Basket 2017, with the slogan, Building Baskets, Building Bridges, and the aim of distributing food baskets to Muslims living in Foyers during the Ramadan period throughout Ramadan and is appealing for donations to support the mission.

Ramadan, which begins this year on the evening of 27 June, is a month-long period of fasting during which Muslims refuse food and water between dawn and sunset.

Last year Refugees Luxembourg delivered baskets to Foyers at Logopedie, Maternity, Ettelbruck Weilerbach, Heiderscheid and Bourscheid.

Thanks to the generosity of the public with so many baskets donated throughout Ramadan, Refugees Luxembourg also provided food for three Iftar evening meals where everybody cooked together. To celebrate the end of Ramadan an Eid party was hosted with Ville de Luxembourg and Reech Eng Hand.

Baskets should include essential, non-perishable food items which are traditionally consumed during Ramadan such as dried fruits such as dates, figs, olives, tea, crackers, noodles, fresh fruit, canned beans, canned hummus, Arabic flat bread, chocolates and fava beans.

Anyone who would like to donate a basket, will find further information and collection points and times can be found on the 'Ramadan in a Basket 2017 Facebook page
