The Ribeschpont Primary School in Dudelange awarded a cheque of €4,000 to Eva-Maria Schmid of SOS Children's Villages International at the school's end of year party yesterday, 14 July 2015.

The primary school had organised a solidarity event in June of this year for the victims of the Nepal earthquakes, and the money raised will go towards helping the children and families of Nepal in rebuilding their lives. The event took place on 18 June 2015 as part of Sports Week, with participating students receiving €1 from their parents for every 300m of completed track. In the end, €4000 was collected for the aid programme in Nepal, where earthquakes devasted the country on 25 April anf 12 May 2015.

The cheque was presented to Eva-Maria Schmid, in charge of Development Education at SOS Children's Villages International, at a ceremony held at the school yesterday. Schmid thanked those who had contributed to the fund-raising, and presented information on the association's activities in the field. Students also had the opportunity to attend two awareness workshops on child rights.

Immediately after the eartquake, SOS Children's Villages Nepal was onsite to assess the situation and provide First Aid, and the association has now helped over 4,300 people and still continues to offer support and rehabilitation programmes in the field to help affected communities recover from their loss.

The Ribeschpont Primary School's sporting event represents the second charity collaboration between a school and non-profit organisation in Luxembourg this month, and followed the recent HESPER 1000km run on 12 July 2015 which also raised money for Nepal's earthquake victims.
