The Indian Association of Luxembourg (IAL) and The Honorary Consul General of India to Luxembourg are organising a musical evening on Saturday 3 October 2015 featuring a Carnatic Violin performance (a music style characteristic of South of India), a duet performance by Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnanan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, accompanied by S.G. Balakrishna on the Mridangam.

Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi are the torch bearers of the illustrious Lalgudi tradition. It is an onerous responsibility to maintain the qualitative quotient of this matchless style, and it is to the siblings' credit that they have emerged with flying colours. Their illustrious father and guru Padmabhushan Lalgudi G. Jayaraman has honed, shaped and moulded the duo's innate musical talent to such perfection that this duo is regarded as  top rankers among contemporary violinists.
 
Both Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi with determination, discipline and dedication have hardly ever sacrificed the classical values of South Indian music at the altar of mere showmanship. Their style of playing represents the unmistakeable “Lalgudi Bani” which epitomises the Gayaki  ang and is the blend of tradition and innovation giving importance to lyrics, melody and laya. Both  made their debut when they were thirteen and have never looked back.  The violin trio concerts of Lalgudi Jayaraman, Krishnan and  Vijayalakshmi radiated a melodic, musical energy that electrified both the audience and the ambience. Their duets all over the world have won the hearts of Music lovers. Both of them have accompanied several senior artists  Krishnan's jugalbandi programmes with leading Hindustani musicians have been widely appreciated. Krishnan’s orchestral pieces composed and featured in the Singapore Arts Festival won widespread appreciation and accolades.

Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi is also an accomplished Vocalist. She has lent her voice to Dance performances and recently to a movie "Sringaram'  the music for which was scored by her legendary father. Vijayalakshmi has played many a Jugalbandhi with leading Hindustani artists as well.
 
The Brother and Sister duo have won many titles and honors including the ”Sangeetha Choodamani”.

Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi are cultural ambassadors par excellence who relentlessly strive to create more global awareness and appreciation for the singular idiom of classical Carnatic music.  If Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi, despite brilliant academic qualifications have opted to pursue an artistic career, it is because of their deep passion for the art and a searing will to reinforce the precious legacy that this duo has been fortunate to inherit.

The event is being held at the Mamerschalass (1 Place de l'Independence, L-8252 Mamer). Doors open at 18:00 with the concert starting at 19:00.
