SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde has received €1,000 towards its Nepal projects thanks to funds raised by the Wämper Triathlon team.

The 20th Wämper Triathlon took place on 22 and 23 August 2015 in Weiswampach, assembling more than 1,000 athletes. Through the triathlon, the team responsible for the event was able to raise €1,000 for SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde - a symbolic €1 for every athlete that participated. This donation was presented in the form of a cheque at a ceremony attended by Mayor of Weiswampach, Henri Rinnen.

Since 2013, this solidarity partnership has seen €3,000 collected for vulnerable children and families worldwide, and the SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde team thanked the organisers for their continued support in 2015.

The money will go towards SOS Villages d'Enfants Nepal projects, which have so far helped more than 8,000 people since the earthquakes which devastated the region earlier this year. The association continues to provide support in the area, despite continual obstacles such as political instability, strikes and blockades, affecting the daily lives of inhabitants and hindering reconstruction.

As winter arrives in the country, the situation is once again becoming an urgent one, with hundreds of thousands of people in need of assistance. SOS Villages d'Enfants Nepal plans to distribute winter kits, and warm clothes have already been handed out to more than 1,000 children in reception centres.

Action is also being taken with regards to the distribution of 'Home in a Box' kits to households, containing food and household items; family support to children separated from their parents; education including school assistance, equipment distribution, ongoing support and balanced meals; economic measures and training to strengthen the livelihood of families; and reconstruction, including the creation of 300 social housing buildings which are resistant to earthquakes, the restoration of community schools and the construction of temporary learning centres.
