Luxembourg City restaurant Come à la Maison opened its doors on Friday 22 February 2016 to serve 90 meals free of charge to disadvantaged people.

The family-owned Italian restaurant, located in the award-winning concept store along Route d'Esch, has previously accommodated a variety of events such as a Luxembourg improv night and, at the initiative of Nathalie Moerman, this time hosted people in need supported by the charity Stëmm vun der Strooss.

A team of 12 volunteers, including owners Séverin and Véronique Laface, served an Italian menu of mixed antipasti, chickpea soup, gnocchi with Bolognese sauce followed by a Moelleux au chocolat. The evening was enhanced by Italian background music to add to the ambience as the guests tucked into their 4-course meal. Guests also received 30 food packs containing a portion ot gnocchi Bolognese, a chocolate bar and a soft drink from the restaurant.

"We are always so grateful and touched by the generosity of people who give up their time for a good cause and in so doing show solidarity towards disadvantaged people and take a step towards combatting social exclusion," remarked Alexandra Oxacelay, director of Stëmm vun der Strooss.

The initiative followed several others proposed by businesses around the Grand Duchy, including the Brasserie du Grand Hôtel Mercure Alfa and Primafood.
